ABOUT DR. DHYMSY OWENS
As a community health psychologist, my work focuses on the importance of cultural and social factors to health promotion and risk prevention. My current interests lean towards (1) disparities in health & health education, (2) resilience, and (3) the experience of acculturation and assimilation as they relate to metabolic and sexual/reproductive health. I aspire to use my research to promote health & well-being through intervention and community outreach, and have contributed to the development and implementation of campaigns and initiatives at varying levels of community.
I am also a passionate educator, having taught at the collegiate level for 15 years. Accordingly, I actively engage in research within the realm of teaching and learning science. My work focuses on developing and delivering enriching learning experiences, fostering supportive learning environments, and active construction of knowledge.
